Nancy Hammond is a painter who loves water life.  Boat yards, black labs, crab feasts, tropical ports, iridescent fish are all scenes from her life of living near the water.  Her studio and home are in deep country on the eastern shore of the Chesapeake Bay.  She grew up in Schenectady and Skaneateles, one of the Finger Lakes in upstate New York.  Summers were spent on Murray Isle on the St. Lawrence River.  For many years, she cruised the Chesapeake on the sloop "Northern Spy".  In the winter, she has often sought refuge in the Caribbean.  Drawings of details are noted in her sketchbook and brought home to the studio to find their way into paintings.  Majoring in Painting at the Rhode Island School of Design, her work has since been chosen to be exhibited in galleries; Baltimore Museum of Art, and Maryland Institute of Art.

Hammond began her Chesapeake work with a series of silkscreen prints.  Since then she has produced scarves, jewelry, shirts, placemats, etched crystal bowls, and ties.  A phenomenon was created when Nancy Hammond began offering an annual lithograph poster, signed and numbered, of Annapolis.  The release of this poster created long lines every year that stretched for blocks  through the night.  Bundled-up patrons , Sterno stoves, tents, dogs, frisbee games, picnics--all were seen on the sidewalks the night before the poster was unveiled.  The news media wrote many stories about the customers in their sleeping bags in the cold.

She has produced many limited edition fine art prints.  The silkscreen prints are hand pulled from hand cut stencils.  All her limited edition giclees and silkscreens are small in number, printed on 100% archival paper, and signed and numbered by the artist.  Favorites of yachtsmen, her works have been received enthusiastically by art critics as well.

In her new studio, light bounces off every surface.  Many works progress simultaneously.  Crayons, acrylic paint, glue, and a myriad of colorful paper scraps carpet the floor; evidence of her favorite working medium, cut paper.

Nancy Hammond Editions publishes Nancy Hammond's work exclusively.   Her gallery is located on Maryland's eastern shore now--the heart of sailing and crab and oyster country.  Visitors are welcome to meet the artist where new works are continuously exhibited.
